pinch pot assignment
The expectation for this assignment consisted of, 2 matching features with everyone at the table, scratch and attach 2 or more pieces, a drawn out idea of what we were making (front and back). apply underglaze to the portions i wanted the regular glaze on top. the glazes i used were Rainforest: c-49, tourmaline: pl-27, and saturated gold: pc-2

sphere sculpture

For this project I did coconuts with a flower on top because it was an easy thing to do since they are already in a circle shape. Me and my family go to costa rica alot and everytime we go my mom always gets coconuts to drink the water out of. I was planning on giving this piece to my mom once it was finished. To make this piece I pinched 5 pieces of clay into a half circle, then I paired up 4 out of the 5 and scratched and attached them to each other to make 2 complete circles and left the 5th one by itself for the illusion of the coconut being cracked open. I scratched and attached them all together then made the flower by making the petals then putting them together in a flower like shape. I added a brown coat of underglaze on the coconuts and whit on the inside of the open coconut. the flower is blue and white.

slab box project 2/12
This slab TV box is one of my favorite pieces. I made 6 square slabs (all even in size) then slipped and scored them together to make a box. While it was still wet I poked holes in the back of the tv and carved out the outline of the screen to represent the subtracted texture. for additive texture I added buttons to the front of the TV to give off a more realistic form . For the octopus, I started off with a sphere of clay, then placed 8 even strands of rolled clay to represent the tentacles, then used my finger to shape and blend the tentacles into the sphere. After the octopus was made I placed it on the top of the TV and bent the tentacles in the flow of my choice giving the illusion of movement. When I see an octopus I rarely see it still, which gave me the idea of making the octopus the main movement point. After letting the box and octopus dry, I then glazed it and fired it. I really like how the color of the octopus came out and I am really proud of myself.

ceramics bust 5/14
First I Rolled out a thick coil that was twice as thick as my thumb, I then flatten it a little bit to Create the outline of the shoulders. Then create an inner circle, Build up the shoulders using thick pieces of slab, Build the neck up above the shoulders. After I got enough height, I use small slabs of clay to fill in the gaps between the neck and shoulders then added long, thick chunks of clay on the back of the head for hair and added texture and volume. For the face i carved large holes in the face to allow me to put eyeballs inside the holes then add eyelids.
