I made this painting by using the ink blowing method. I first drew an outline of the butterfly, then added ink to the part of the butterfly I wanted to be a certain color. once I was done ink blowing, I painted over any party I wanted to fix or alter.

10/19/2024 SMOKE PAINTING
Making this piece, I held the paper over a candle and moved the candle around. After doing so, I erased the smoke that remained on the paper in the shape of eyeballs. To add more to the piece I used a small point sharpie to add value and definition. I got the idea of this from a phone case I saw online. I recommend moving the candle around often so the paper doesn't burn.

10/20/24 contrasting colors
This painting was a little difficult to make because the paint I was using was difficult to blend together. I started with the cats face, then ears, then the background. One thing I wish I did differently was I used a sponge to blend the background because I feel like it would have taken a lot less time and paint. It definitely isn't my favorite work but it turned out pretty alright.

10/22/2024 PAPER MARBLING
Making this paper marbling piece was actually really fun! After putting water in a shallow plastic box, I would drip different color inks around the water. To make the flower looking sections I would add a dot of green then purple on top, then green again. Once it spread out a little bit I would take something resembling a small stick and drag it from the outside of the circle to the inside. I would repeat that all around the circle until it resembles a flower. Once the water looks as I want it to, I take a piece of paper and flatten it across the water. One thing I recommend is letting the color sit for a second before you mix it into the shape you want so the water doesn't fog up.

11/20/24 dreams or nightmares
While painting this art piece, I enjoyed making the clouds the most because in my opinion, they turned out really well. It took a few days to make this so each time trying to make the same brown was a struggle and i ended up having to change the color of the brown many times. I started with small details then did the background around it which probably wasn't the best idea either but I made it work.

1/14/25 ANYTHING BUT A CANVAS
For this project I chose to do a phone case because I would like to use the phone case on my phone in the future. I started by painting the lighter colors such as the yellow and orange colors, then I added the black on top. I got this idea from a pinterest picture of an eyeball with a really cool swirl. I actually really love the way this project came out because it was an easy, simple design and I also really liked the colors used. The most difficult part was probably keeping the circle shape while trying to add the black lines going out from the center. I do want to put a clear coat of mod podge over the phone case so the paint won't come off when it gets wet.

2/26/25 Watercolor + pen animal
I really love this painting because it reminds me of summer. Most of the paintings that I have painted are more cool colors rather than warm colors, so it feels like it gives off warmer, happier vibes. I chose a tiger because every year I go to costa rica and there is a picture in our costa rica house that is similar to my watercolor painting. I am revisiting costa rica in a few months and painting this was my way of expressing how exited I am to go back.

the idea I chose of a ladybug came from a nickname I was given as a child by my mom. "Laina Bug" is what she would call me because of how much I loved them. This relates to fantasy because in the story peter pan, The focus is not growing up and staying young forever. First I drew out the ladybug then made it more cubist by boxing up the shapes, erasing lines, adding extra lines, and removing triangles or squares to give the appearance of it fading away. I used watercolor for the lady bug then once that dried, I did the background oil pastel crayons. Instead of coloring it in, I rubbed the oil pastels on a separate piece of paper, collected the dust and used a paper towel to rub it in, giving it a lighter tint.
